My
family and upbringing planted the seed for what my chosen career
would be. Being the second oldest of 6 children allowed me to
literally grow up around babies. Due to my mother’s need for an
extra set of hands I quickly learned the basics of infant care.
I was diapering babies before I could read! My hands-on
experience with my younger siblings led to neighborhood
babysitting in Hudson, Ohio during my teen years. My
professional childcare experience began following my graduation
from high school in 1995. In September of 1995 I accepted my
first full time nanny position and in July of 2003 I was hired
for my first overnight newborn position caring for premature
twins.
My
paid childcare experience includes 3 long term nanny positions
and various temporary and on-call positions working with
families found both on my own and through agencies. I have
continued to work exclusively with newborns following my first
baby nurse position in July of 2003. I’ve worked with
singletons, multiples, premature infants and infants with
complications. I am experienced with the protocol for reflux,
apnea monitors and administering breathing treatments.
Additionally, I am well read concerning issues pertaining to
postpartum care of both the mother and newborn. The specific
families I’ve worked with along with the ages of children are
all listed in my resume. References or letters of recommendation
are available from previous clients.
In
addition to my paid childcare experience my volunteer work
experience has contributed significantly to my development as a
childcare professional. During 3 years of counseling for a teen
crisis hotline, I maintained professionalism and maturity in
sensitive and/or confidential situations concerning children and
their families, and became proficient at deescalating
high-stress situations affecting their well-being. I served as a
House Parent in a Filipino orphanage for a three-month term in
1998, where I was responsible for the welfare and educational
development of nineteen orphaned children under my care. My team
of three House Parents supervised the payroll and work schedule
of four local employees on the project staff, enhancing my
skills at working as part of a larger childcare team. This
project also honed my ability to adapt quickly to changing
environments and events in an exotic location while still
accomplishing the objective of providing quality childcare.
At the
present time my hobbies include cooking, knitting/crochet,
traveling, hiking, seeing the ocean, discovering new coffee
shops, watching sitcoms and shopping. I also love spending time
with my family. We have a lot of fun when we all come together
around the holidays.
My
infant care philosophy is simple. I want to be a calming
presence in the homes I work in. My job is to teach through
example providing parents with the tools needed to take over
when I leave. I am friendly and easy going. I tend to blend
naturally and quickly into new homes. I am fully capable of
full-charge infant care however I never mind parental/sibling
involvement. My philosophy is to encourage bonding between the
parents and their newborn. I am aware of the multitude of health
benefits associated with breastfeeding (for both mom and baby)
and thus encourage breastfeeding for Moms who want to nurse.
Having said that, I fully support any mother’s decision to
formula feed if she so chooses. I recognize that not all women
can breastfeed; in fact, the majority of my clients do
formula-feed.
Working as a baby nurse is something that brings me a great deal
of personal satisfaction. I am able to incorporate my
organizational skills, my creativity, and my love for babies all
into my career, and see daily growth and development as a result
of my work. Thank you for taking the time to read about my
background and philosophies. I look forward to speaking with you
regarding your postpartum needs.
Best
regards,
Jennifer White
